a highly motivated professional engineer with diverse
transportation engineering expertise to serve as the Department of
Transportation's (MCDOT) Chief Engineer and lead subject matter
expert in all transportation planning, engineering, and
construction matters.This is a new position. The Chief Engineer
will be responsible for technical engineering oversight, quality
control and assurance, and continually improving the County's
transportation design standards.What You'll Be DoingThe selected
individual will provide technical direction and oversight for all
MCDOT projects involving planning, engineering, and construction
activities. Primary duties include:
- Approve engineering plans and documents for all County
transportation projects, ensuring quality control and compliance
with applicable laws and standards.
- Develop and modify the County's transportation engineering
standards utilizing current trends and best practices.
- Coordinate technical training and professional development for
transportation engineers, planners, and construction managers.
- Provide oversight for the Materials Testing Laboratory,
ensuring quality assurance for materials used in transportation
projects.
- Provide technical engineering advice to the Director, Chief
Administrative Officer, and County Executive on transportation
engineering matters.Minimum QualificationsEducation: Graduation
from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree.
Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering
discipline.Experience: Seven (7) years of progressively responsible
professional experience in Civil or Transportation Engineering,
with three (3) years in a supervisory or executive
capacity.License: Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in
Maryland, or ability to obtain by reciprocity within 1 year. Valid
Class "C" driver's license from the applicant's state of residence
when required for job-related duties.Preferred Criteria, Interview
PreferencesPreference for interviews will be given to applicants
with licensure and experience in the following areas:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering, or
related field.
- Experience in various engineering disciplines related to
transportation capital projects.
- Knowledge of relevant Federal, State, and County laws and
regulations.
- Experience with traditional and innovative project delivery
methods.
- Experience with quality assurance and quality control
programs.
- Development and maintenance of engineering standards and best
practices.
- Communicating with and making presentations to the public and
senior managers.**Relevant experience in these areas must be
