announcement.OVERVIEWThe Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute
(STRI) is seeking an Associate Director for Resilience (Senior
Science Advisor) to join the Adrienne Arsht Community-Based
Resilience Solutions Initiative (the Initiative). The primary
purpose of the position is to support Initiative leadership in
strategic planning, gift fund management, and scientific review and
advisory services. This involves assisting in the management and
coordination of science, policy, partnerships, and funding for the
Initiative; and leading special projects, in alignment with the
Initiative's pan-Smithsonian efforts to develop solutions to
complex issues such as the climate crisis and biodiversity
loss.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESStrategic Planning Support
- Supports the development of Initiative goals and objectives in
accordance with Initiative Director and SI strategic and/or
operations plans.
- Facilitates and tracks the development of strategic and
operational planning documents.Gift Fund Management Support
- Support effective and efficient management of specific
Initiative gift funds.
- Reports to relevant program managers and Initiative
stakeholders on status of funds execution.Scientific Review and
Advisory Services
- Plans and conducts multi-disciplinary scientific review
activities spanning the fields of biology, ecology,
biogeochemistry, and social sciences.
- Communicates accurate and up-to-date competitive SI awards
review and fellowship selection policies.Performs other related
duties as assigned.QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Ph.D. in biology, ecology, environmental studies, climate
science, or other similar field.
- Demonstrated experience with the science peer review
process.
- Demonstrated experience with stakeholder engagement and
advisory team formation.
- Strong and effective communication skills, oral and in
writing.Education completed outside the United States must be
deemed equivalent to higher education programs of U.S.
